How this project came about
K-LAB, FROM INCLUSION COMES THE PRODUCT
K-LAB is a collective that develops design projects.
Graphic designers, architects and illustrators get involved and work together with the abilities of fragile people, recognising their value, channelling their resources in a productive way, giving dignity and due recognition to their talent.
K-Lab combines several workshops in a single production chain to create beautiful and useful products. Each workshop is designed to enhance the skills and differences of fragile people through creativity and beauty.
Ecocreativo is a creative workshop specialising in graphics and illustration, designed for adults with disabilities who cannot be permanently or temporarily employed. It is a place that favours creativity, where all the activities and proposals are carried out with an educational content to encourage awareness, self-respect and respect for the materials used.
GIARDINO DEL BAOBAB
The sentences come from the imagination of Giardino del Baobab, which was born from the desire to promote the culture of the uniqueness of the person and of difference as a resource, to give voice and recognition to the rich and profound thoughts of those who until now were forced to silence because they did not have verbal language due to a disability. Il Giardino del Baobab collaborates through the design of sentences and texts, written by the silent children through the technique of Facilitated Communication. How many thoughts we would have missed without this initiative.
The lettering was done by the people of Nessuno Escluso, an experimental project that takes in about thirty adults with disabilities and accompanies them in projects of autonomy and social inclusion.
Nessuno Escluso builds opportunities for inclusion starting from those who experience exclusion in order to overcome it, letting themselves be guided by creativity through photography, self-discovery, beauty and manual work.
Semiliberi is a project that was set up with the aim of building, through work, paths of social reintegration from prison.
A social innovation project that challenges the physical and mental walls that separate the prison from the city.
The Semiliberi carpentry workshop offers a work opportunity to people with medium-long sentences. The workshop, in collaboration with local companies, started with the activity of restoring tables and display material.
It is a tailoring workshop where courageous women from a difficult past make products with the help of seamstresses, educators, pattern makers and fashion designers.
The products are made from 'valuable stock', leftover fabrics, materials from REMIDA and some purchases.
Each product made by the workshop is unique and accompanied by a story of redemption, beauty and dignity.
